What is a Dental Assistant?

Dental Assistants are responsible for providing hands-on support to Dentists and completing prep work to efficiently care for patients. Their duties include completing intake paperwork, updating patient records, sterilizing, and organizing dental tools, assisting during dental procedures and taking X-rays.

 

Dental Assistant Certification Requirements

The Dental Assisting certification training is a 12-week program that consists of 120 hours of classroom and lab instruction and 12 hours of externship at an approved dental facility. Participants MUST attend all sessions.

Requirements:

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to meet each of the essential functions and technical standards required to work as a successful Dental Assistant.

  • The applicant must complete the classroom training and externship hours to successfully pass the Radiation Health and Safety exam (RHS) to be considered certified
